"City of the Arts"? They wish. A library 'service' that rids itself of books that haven't been borrowed for two or three years? A council that is going to demolish a hall perfectly suited for all kinds of artistic activities? It looked that way (City of the Arts) for a while but this council is too interested in development. It's a council run for business not for the residents.

And a green city in a national park? LOL. Check out how many Sydney councils have a proper recycling service (yes, I know it's coming. It will also transfer business and jobs to Sydney). Or how many let you take a trailer load of tree cuttings to the tip and give/sell you a bag of compost in return.

One needs to ask again and again why certain councillors want to demolish the hall. And also why Lawson Golf Course was allowed to get so run down. Would the BMCC have done the same thing to W. Falls Country Club? We know what certain councillors want to do with golf course, don't we? Of course, that wouldn't have anything to do with an increased number of customers for their business, would it, or who knows what else?

Just read that Port Macquarie-Hastings Council was sacked by the government today.

Is there anymore corrupt institution in Australia today than local government (and I used to work in it)?

Like her or loathe her, at least when Carol Gaul was on the council, at least the Gazette reported on all the council meetings. Now it seems all the councillors (and that's ALL of them regardless of political affiliations) must just sit there nodding their heads and counting their perks.

I can understand the motives of the people wanting to keep the hall with their demos, pole signs etc. because they are fighting to save a community asset.

However, I do not understand the motives of the demolish-the-hall crowd (particularly the Pickled Pink lot from the pub). Why would they bother to writer letters, allegedly overspray the pole signs etc. What does this lot have to gain by their vocal and active desire to demolish the hall?

I live in Woodford and what is happening with this hall is absolutely disgusting. Funny how it is being pushed through before the coming council elections...
as to Chris Vanderkley - he should not even be in office as a councillor.. it is only due to the preferential system ,that he is there. If I remember rightly Ashok Rathore received the most votes in this ward.. and where is he? outed by prefentials going to others.

Someone has to put a stop to these horrendous moves of NSW's councils! It is happening all over, land grabs, building grabs, you name it - if they can make some money from it - your heritage is gone!
Soon enough, there will be councillors mothers offered for sale.
This would never happen in the UK. People speak up to protect their community. I was there during London's poll tax riots in 1991 - the public revolted and smashed the west end of London to pieces........within a few months the poll taxes where dead and gone and never to be resurrected. Power to the people, you make things happen in groups. SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL COMMUNITY!

From someone who likes Lawson and understands the engineering behind moving something like the Hall,It seems to me that there some other things going on behind the scenes and I suspect that various councillors (including the mayor) have something to gain from the removal of the hall,probably the building of some sort of housing with back handers givenby developers.....this council seems to be somewhat dishonest

Micheal has put it beautifully - How can our city fathers ignor this sort of sentiment. My family is too recently arrived for either of us to share these memories, but this letter confirms my intentions to do what it takes to save this hall. How glad would I be to know that my fourteen year old has the opportunity to bang his silly head (together with all his mates) to good old grungy live music from time to time. Councillor Van Der Kley might be the local councillor for the Mid Mountains but he has way too much say about Lawson: let him keep his snout busy in Hazelbrook or Wentworth Falls. He has done enough damage through championing the eyesore 'skate park', and the bulldozing of a town with which he really doesn't have anything to do with.

If he does want to do something for Lawson, how about a public toilet? Or some gardens?
